It’s been a while since I have updated my blog, but I have been really busy with work and some personal projects. Which brings us to what I’m about to present you. I’m starting a new project called Weekly Seen (pun intended), each week I will upload a 3d scene with a simple story or mood.  Some of them will be from famous movies, some of the scenes will be my own concepts; it can be something that happened to me that week or something I have seen or heard.

The ultimate purpose of this project is PRACTICE! I want to try different styles of light, compositions, learn more about what makes or breaks a scene and, along the road, I would love to hear your thoughts, comments and critiques.

The other purpose of this project is to share. “Sharing is Caring.” In some of the scenes I will try to share what was my thought process when creating that particular scene, what reference imagery did I use, what type of textures I used, where did I get the textures from, what type of lighting I used, why did I use that type of lighting, what obstacles I faced while doing this project, what workaround did I use. And some times I will share prizes with some of the scenes. I will try to have a prize for you guys each month (as I said, I’ll try…).

In this week’s Weekly Seen, I present a scene from a famous movie and I know you movie geeks out there will guess this in a heart beat. So this is why I decided to make this more interesting.

So can you guess from what movie this scene is?

This scene was modeled, textured in Maya and rendered with Mental Ray, the character was also modeled, rigged and textured in Maya. I really enjoyed modeling this character in Maya especially because I commissioned the Great Luigi to design this amazing character (Luca) for me. The Rigging process was very interesting to say the least! But I gotta thank the great mentors at Digital Tutors for creating amazing tutorials.

This week’s prize is aimed towards DeviantArt members (you know… DeviantArt, the largest Art Community, like.. in the World!) so if you don’t have a DeviantArt account and you always wanted to create one, well now it’s your chance to become a member with features!
